Data Science & Analytics Students Selected for the 2022 CSBS Data Analytics Competition

Three first-year MS Data Science & Analytics students have advanced to the next round of the 2022 CSBS Data Analytics Competition (new window). Qian Leng, Yihui Liu, Zehui Wu and their faculty advisor Dr. Purna Gamage are one of eight teams from six universities that will participate in the competition. The eight selected teams will submit their research reports by April 22. The four top teams will be selected to make final presentations on May 5 and will receive monetary prizes up to $5,000.

Georgetown’s students will compete against teams from Carnegie Mellon University, College of William and Mary, Kennesaw State University, Southern Methodist University, and the University of California at Irvine. In this nation-wide challenge, participants help scholars, policymakers, and the public better understand the role of community banks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using data provided by the SB, CSBS and elsewhere, teams will develop a hypothesis about the role community banks played during the pandemic, create a data analytics model to test their hypothesis and draw data-driven insights from their research.
